Polls chief tells police to act

Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has instructed the police to seize any government vehicle for election related work.
He has also warned heads of government institutions that legal action will be taken against them if government vehicles are used for election work by candidates contesting the September 21 provincial polls.
The use of government property including vehicles is a violation of election laws.
Election monitors have reported the misuse of state vehicles for election work especially in the Central and North Western Province. (Colombo Gazette)
