UK to watch NPC polls

The British Government says it will have a close eye on the elections for the Northern Provincial Council later this month.
British Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt noted that the Commonwealth has been invited to monitor the elections in the North.
He said that Britain, which is part of the Commonwealth, will keep a close watch on the elections.
“UK consistently pushes for progress on the LLRC, humanrights, and free access to CHOGM. The NPC elections this month will be closely monitored. UK consistently urges progress in SriLanka on wide range of issues, as William Hague (UK Foreign Secretary) made clear in Parliament this week,” Burt tweeted.
The elections for the Northern Provincial Council as well as the Central and North Western provinces will be held on September 21.
Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma confirmed this week that the Commonwealth has been invited to monitor the elections in Sri Lanka.
