Tight security has been placed outside the UN office in Colombo ahead of a scheduled press conference by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay.
Pillay is to address the media at the UN compound tomorrow morning but some Buddhist organizations have threatened to block her convoy near the UN office and handover a petition.
The monks have already informed the media about their plans including a possible attempt to surround Pillay’s vehicle if she fails to meet them face to face.
The police said that they might be compelled to close some roads around the UN office tomorrow morning during the time the press briefing is underway.
Police spokesman SP Budhika Siriwardena said that tight security will be in place outside the UN office tomorrow but instructions are yet to be given to close any roads. (Colombo Gazette)
