Dutch Supreme Court upholds sentence on five LTTE suspects

The Dutch Supreme Court has upheld the sentence on five LTTE suspects, the Dutch media reported. The five convicts were tried in the Netherlands and punished for being members of a criminal organization. In April 2015 a court in The Hague imposed prison sentences ranging from six months to nineteen years and three months on the five convicts. Parliament sittings adjourned following tense situation

Parliament sittings were adjourned today following a tense situation. The situation arose when the joint opposition raised objections to the time allocated for them to speak. Joint opposition Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardena said that very little time had been allocated for the joint opposition to raise the Geneva issue in Parliament today. Concerns raised on absence of Ministers, action from May

Concerns were raised today over the absence of several Ministers in Parliament when questions pertaining to their Ministries were raised. Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella was forced to ask for time for several questions posed as the subject Minister or Deputy Minister was not present. Kiriella said that the attendance of the Member of Parliament must be published on the Parliament website. Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said that the process will be implemented from May.
