Bangladesh looks at monk’s death

Bangladesh is to gather information into the death of a Bangladeshi Buddhist monk in Sri Lanka after he was reportedly assaulted in Rajagiriya.
The monk remained hospitalised for about a week and succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
“I heard yesterday that the monk had died Tuesday night at a hospital,” Bangladesh High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Md Sufiur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune.
“So far I know he was beaten and became hospitalised few days back,” he said.
When asked about his details, he said he was busy with SAARC Finance Ministers’ meeting and would be able to provide details by Friday afternoon.
“I could not attend the office due to the ongoing finance ministers’ meeting and I am yet to get the details. I would be able to give you a clear picture tomorrow afternoon,” he said.
The victim was identified as Ven Tilton Barua, 28, who was living near the temple.
Colombo National Hospital officials said the Buddhist monk was in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital with severe head injuries.
An unidentified group beat the monk with clubs on August 20 when he was at a temple in Rajagiriya.
Welikada police are investigating the incident.
