Pillay holds talks in Jaffna

Visiting UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay had discussions in Jaffna today.
Pillay, who arrived in the North last evening, visited the UN office in Jaffna as well as the Jaffna library, and District Secretariat?s office.
She met the Jaffna Government Agent (GA), Governor and other senior government officials in the area.
Pillay also had a closed door meeting with civil society representatives in Jaffna.
Meanwhile at least two demonstrations were held during her visit to Jaffna this morning.
The demonstrators had urged Pillay through placards and posters to look into their family members reported missing during and after the war.
Pillay however did not meet the demonstrators. ?Pillay had also met the wife of former LTTE Trincomalee political head Elilan in Jaffna.?(Colombo Gazette)

Test run at Mattala airport successful

The test run carried out today at the Mattala airport using a test aircraft of the Pakistan Civil Aviation Department was successful, the Civil Aviation Department said. Two Lankans deported from Chennai

Two Sri Lankan women, who arrived at the city airport on Sunday evening by an Air India flight, were deported to Colombo on Monday afternoon. Airport sources said the duo, Dharmarathinam, 26, and her younger sister Mohanapriya, 25, was sent back as they have been barred from entering the country for one year since February 2012.
