Explanation sought for absence

The Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission has sought an explanation from a state institution which had failed to appear before the commission over the Weliweriya incident.
Speaking to some media representatives today the Commission said that the state institution has been asked to appear before the commission on another day.
The Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission had summoned 26 state institutions to discuss the water issue in Weliweriya soon after the clashes but one state institution had failed to attend the meeting.
The issues faced by the media both during and after the Weliweriya clashes was also discussed at today?s meeting. (Colombo Gazette)

The two?Sri Lankans who were among 20 foreigners held hostage by militants in Dhaka, Bangladesh have been rescued.
