Major General Channa Goonetilleke has been appointed the new Chief of Staff of the Army. He has been serving as the Deputy Chief of Staff since 04 November 2016. He succeeds Major General U. A. Employees of Hambantota port suspend protest

Employees of the Hambantota port who have been protesting for days, suspended the protest today after the management warned that they face termination of employment. The employees had been warned to return to work by this afternoon, failing which their employment will be terminated. Journalists protest against assault by Navy Commander

Journalists staged a protest in Fort today against the commander of the Navy after he was accused of assaulting a journalist. The journalist was allegedly assaulted when he was covering a protest by employees of the Hambantota port. Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne denied assaulting the journalist but the Government launched an investigation over the incident.
