UNP wants elections says Ranil (Video)

The leader of the opposition United National Party (UNP), Ranil Wickremesinghe, speaking to reporters in Chennai today, said that his party wants national elections next year.
He said that the UNP is disturbed by some of the incidents which took place in the country recently which affected not only the Tamils and Muslims but the Sinhalese as well.
Wickremesinghe said that the UNP and opposition parties are looking forward to the elections in the North in September.
However he said they are disappointed that?foreign?election observers were not invited at the very beginning to monitor the polls.
He said the opposition wanted the government to send out the invitations the day nominations for the polls were called for.
Elections for the Northern Provincial Council will take place on September 21.?(Colombo Gazette)

Time July edition banned

The government has banned the distribution of the latest edition of the internationally acclaimed Time magazine over some of its content. The Sri Lanka customs department said that 4000 copies of the July edition of magazine had been seized at the Colombo port.
