For Nathan Eardly, winning TNL Onstage 2013 was an unbelievable experience and he would not trade that moment for anything else.
It was not an easy ride though as he had to face stiff competition. But as they say, in the end there can be only one winner, and that winner was Nathan. Nathan won the solo category of the competition.
“In this amazing experience I had, what I realized was that I have not come across a competition in Sri Lanka who not only give out a solid plat form for up and coming musicians but mainly the effort on bringing out raw talent, originality is just awesome! I know that most of us do covers at each episode of the competition but ultimately It’s your uniqueness which should be brought out through those songs is what matters. And I would whole heartedly say that TNL encourages you to be you and also bring you a lot far than you can imagine. Hence, is why I am glad I took part in this competition and I encourage a lot to do so,” he said.
Nathan says music is something he loved doing since he was a kid.
In church, ( where he started off his singing ) he was exposed to singing and playing the guitar at all the events held for a year and he also sang at Sunday services.
Nathan says Derek Wickramanayake the former lead vocalist and lead guitarist in the band ‘Wild Fire’ trained him in music and eventually he started playing in some of the leading hotels in Sri Lanka.
He says his dad gave him huge support when he wanted to play the guitar and sing and as he grew older he started following legends like Michael buble, John Mayer, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and Jason Mraz who not only inspired him with singing but also with their life stories.
“A year ago I took a stand to get in to music and see where it would lead me and I would say at the rate it’s taking me I would not want to look back. That moment of singing in front of 2000 + people was a moment I would want to have for the rest of my life,” he said.
A star in the making, Nathan is very appreciative of the many people who helped him along the way from his school days to today including, most of all his parents.
Nathan says he would like to be a musician who inspires not only with his music but also with his lifestyle while of course releasing albums, performing at concerts and so on.
