Chinese arrested with gems

A Chinese woman was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport this morning with gem stones worth over Rs. 4.2 million.
Customs officers at the airport checked the 35 year old woman?s luggage on suspicion when she was preparing to board a flight to Shanghai.
Inside the luggage they found gem stones worth over Rs 4.2 million.
The woman had pleaded innocent saying she did not know that gem stones could not be taken out of the country undeclared.
Airport authorities had found that she had travelled between Sri Lanka and China on at least four occasions.
Further investigations are underway. (Colombo Gazette)

Air India subsidiary Alliance Air to fly to Palaly and Batti

The Civil Aviation Ministry in India has approved Alliance Air plan to launch foreign operations by starting flights to Sri Lanka even as the airline’s parent Air India remains on top of the Government’s disinvestment agenda, IANS reported.
