Army, Chinese envoy hold talks

The Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the new Army Commander held discussions today at the ?Army Headquarters.
Chinese Ambassador Wu Jianghao is the first foreign diplomat to have formal talks?with the new Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake.
A four-member Chinese delegation, headed by the ambassador, included Li Chen Glin, the newly appointed Defence Attach? and two other diplomats.
During their interaction, both the Ambassador and the Army Chief shared sentiments of goodwill and views on matters of mutual interest.
Towards the end of the meeting, both of them signified the importance of the occasion by exchanging mementos, the army media unit said.

Sajith, Dayasiri leave protest site as situation escalates

SJB defends decision to take to the streets

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) today defended its decision to take to the streets and protest against State repression. SJB MP Eran Wickremeratne said that those protesting have different views on certain matters. However, he said they are all united on ensuring democracy. He noted that the Government had used emergency laws and high security zones to crackdown on protesters. UNDP appeals for assistance to help rebuild Sri Lanka

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has appealed for assistance to help rebuild Sri Lanka. The UNDP said that through the Rebuild Sri Lanka platform, the public can contribute $5, $15 or more to support the healthcare and food sectors.
