Curfew re-imposed in Grandpass

A police curfew has been re-imposed in Grandpass as fresh clashes erupted this evening over a mosque in the area.

The police said that the curfew will be in force from 6pm this evening to 7am tomorrow.

Riot police and the special task force reinforcements have been deployed to Grandpass after mobs clashed again this evening.

Earlier some Muslim Ministers had sent a strongly worded letter to President Mahinda Rajapaksa urging him to take stern action on those responsible for the attack on the Grandpass mosque.

A few journalists were also threatened by a mob while at least one journalist was injured during the clashes this afternoon and evening. (Colombo Gazette)
