The Gampaha Magistrate today ordered a report on the Weliweriya incident where three people were killed and several others were injured following a demonstration held last week demanding clean water.
Gampaha Magistrate Tikiri. K. Jayatillake also instructed the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) to investigate claims made by the police that the court had been informed about the contaminated water prior to the protest.
The Magistrate said that the police had not mentioned anything regarding the factory or the contaminated water prior to the clashes which took place last week.
Meanwhile the CCD informed the Magistrate that statements had been recorded from 100 police officers and 100 villagers regarding the incident.
The CCD said that the weapons of 93 policemen who were at the location in Weliweriya during the clash had also been seized for investigations. (Colombo Gazette)
