Abbas hails ties with Lanka

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has hailed the ties between Sri Lanka and Palestine after Dr. T. Jayasinghe, the  Ambassador for Sri Lanka in Palestine was decorated with the “Order of the Star of Jerusalem”, one of the highest levels of honors awarded to distinguish persons in recognition of the exemplary performance of functions while serving in Palestine or abroad.
President Abbas reminisced his two visits to Sri Lanka and his meetings with President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is also a very close friend of Palestine. He also mentioned that action will be taken to send a delegation from the State of Palestine to the Conference of the Heads of Commonwealth nations as an observer and the Commonwealth Business Forum.
The President further noted that Dr. Jayasinghe as a good friend and supporter of Palestine for a long time, continued the solidarity work he commenced in 1975 to further strengthen the friendship between the two countries and the peoples.
He also stated that Dr. Jayasinghe managed to promote assistance to Palestine in the field of education and establish useful business contacts. Palestinians were encouraged to visit Sri Lanka and now Sri Lanka is a popular tourist destination of Palestinians. At the same time Sri Lankan pilgrims were encouraged to visit Jerusalem and Bethlehem with positive publicity about Palestine. (Colombo Gazette)
