Former police spokesman SS Priyashantha Jayakody has been removed from service after he failed to return from Australia.
Police headquarters said that Jayakody had not informed the police about his absence from work and so has been considered as having vacated his post.
Jayakody, who was the SSP in-charge of the Ratnapura Division and often stood in as the acting police spokesperson in the absence of the current spokesman, had gone to Australia on training but had not returned to Sri Lanka after he completed his training program.
Earlier this year Jayakody had received death threats after he ordered a raid on a club allegedly operating with political backing in Ratnapura. (Colombo Gazette)
