The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says Vavuniya has become a symbol for national unity as communities representing all races and religions live in the area.
JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe, speaking at a leaflet distribution event at the Vavuniya town today, said that Vavuniya should be taken as an example for the entire country.
“Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims should have the freedom to live anywhere as one nation,” he said.
He said that the July 1983 riots is a stark reminder for the need for national unity to be established in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
