Over 6000 have returned

The Ministry of Foreign Employment says over 6000 Sri Lankans employed in Saudi Arabia illegally have made used of an amnesty period and returned to the country.
Foreign Employment Minister Dilan Perera said that there were 16000 Sri Lankans employed in Saudi Arabia illegally.
However after the Saudi authorities offered an amnesty period, 6000 Sri Lankans got exit permits and left the country.
He however said that several Sri Lankans are still working illegally in the Middle Eastern country and he urged them to make use of the amnesty period before they face arrest.
The Minister said that the Sri Lankan mission in Saudi Arabia has taken measures to assist Sri Lankans who seek to return to the island. (Colombo Gazette)

Bangladesh traders forced to export leather to China at low prices

Bangladesh is lagging behind in the world market even though the quality of the leather is good as the traders are forced to export leather to China at low prices. As per the guidelines, those who sell leather must have a Leather Working Group (LWG) certificate, the only institution in the country that has that full certificate. Using this opportunity, Chinese companies are buying leather at a low price. China does not attach much importance to this certificate, reported Bangladesh Livenews.
