Political parties and independent groups today began handing over their nominations for the provincial council elections in September.

The Sri Lanka Working Party is to field 19 candidates at the Northern Provincial Council elections.
Nominations were also handed over by the Janasetha Peramuna in Vavuniya and Mannar for the northern elections.
Meanwhile two independent groups handed over deposits for the polls in the Central province and another two in the North Western province today.
Nominations for the elections to the Northern, Central and North Western (Wayamba) Provincial councils will be accepted between July 25 and August 1.
Meanwhile security has been tightened at the Jaffna District Secretariat where nominations for the northern elections are being handed over. (Colombo Gazette)
