The Department of Meteorology says heavy rain and strong winds will be experienced along the southwest and western parts of the country today.
It said that showers will occur at times in the central, sabaragamuwa, western and southern provinces. Showers may extend to North-Western province too.
Fairly strong winds are expected to continue over the country and neighbouring sea areas, particularly along the western slopes of the Central hills.
The Department of Meteorology also said that there will be showers or thundershowers at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Galle.
Winds will be Southwesterly direction and speed will be 30-40 km/hr. The speed may increase up to 60 km/h at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Puttalam to Trincomalie via Jaffna and increase up to 50kmph in the other sea areas around the island.
