Brothels raided, women arrested

The police raided at least three brothels operating in the Wellawatte and Mirihana areas and arrested several women, the police media unit said today.
The police said that in Wellawatte a brothel operating on the first floor of a building down Havelock Road was raided ob a court order.
The brothel was operating in the guise of a spa, the police media unit said today. The police arrested the manager of the place and two women aged 39 and 43.
In the Mirihana division, the police raided a location at Beddegana in Pittakotte and arrested a man and four women.
The police said that the women were arrested for engaging in prostitution. The brothel was found to be operating as an Ayurvedha spa.
The four women were aged between 20 and 37 years and are residents of Battaramulla, Welimada, Welampitiya and Rambukana.
Also in Mirihana, the police raided another brothel and arrested seven people including six women who were engaged in prostitution.
The women are aged between 23 and 49 years and are residents of Maharagama, Pittakote, Homagama and Colombo. (Colombo Gazette)
