A massive demonstration is to take place in Tamil Nadu next month over various issues concerrning Sri Lanka, the Tamil Ealam Supporters Organization (TESO) announced today.
Tamil Nadu’s DMK party chief M. Karunanidhi attended the TESO meeting on Sri Lanka today together with representatives of several other political parties and groups in South India.
At the meeting held in Chennai, TESO members said that the Indian government must ensure the 13th Amendment to the constitution in Sri Lanka is fully implimented and not diluted.
TESO also decided to push the Indian government to boycott the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Sri Lanka in November over human rights concerns.
It also urged the Indian government to take a firm stand on alleged attacks on Indian fishermen who enter Sri Lankan waters.
TESO decided to stage a demonstration across Tamil Nadu on August 8 to highlight these concerns. (Colombo Gazette)
