Massive demo on Lanka in TN

A massive demonstration is to take place in Tamil Nadu next month over various issues concerrning Sri Lanka, the Tamil Ealam?Supporters Organization (TESO) announced today.
Tamil Nadu’s DMK party chief M. Karunanidhi attended the TESO meeting on Sri Lanka today together with representatives of several other political parties and groups in South India.
At the meeting held in Chennai, TESO members said that the Indian government must ensure the 13th Amendment to the constitution in Sri Lanka is fully implimented and not diluted.
TESO also decided to push the Indian government to boycott the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Sri Lanka in November over human rights concerns.
It also urged the Indian government to take a firm stand on alleged attacks on Indian fishermen who enter Sri Lankan waters.
TESO decided to stage a demonstration across Tamil Nadu on August 8 to highlight these concerns. (Colombo Gazette)

Justice Minister accuses BASL of towing political line

Justice Minister Thalatha Atukorale today accused the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) of towing a political line. She said that BASL President Kalinga Indatissa had mad false statements at a recent meeting with Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa. AG instructs Acting IGP to locate witnesses in Trinco 5 case

Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera has instructed Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickramaratne to try and locate the witnesses in the Trinco 5 case.
