Police fire tear-gas to disperse protesting fans in Dambulla

The police fired tear-gas to disperse a group of protesting cricket fans near the Dambulla cricket stadium today. The fans blocked the streets and protested after not being able to enter the stadium to watch the match between Sri Lanka and Australia. A tense situation developed between the police and protesting cricket fans and it was reported that some fans pelted stones at the police. Army Lieutenant Colonel remanded over attack on wife

The?military officer who was?arrested over an attack on his wife recently has been remanded till September 9 by the Kaduwela Magistrate. Lieutenant Colonel Pradeep Kumara Nettasinghe was arrested over the?incident where his wife was shot at in Athurugiriya by an unidentified group. Nepal seeks Lanka’s help to stop trafficking through Colombo

Nepal has sought Sri Lanka’s help to stop the human trafficking of women from Nepal, the?myrepublica website reported.
