Police bust major vehicle racket

The police says a major vehicle racket has been busted following information provided by a suspect who is in police custody.
According to the police media unit, following months of investigations by the Western Province intelligence unit, the suspect who is in custody had revealed information on the racket where several vehicles were stolen and the number plates changed.
The suspect had appeared under five different names and sold the stolen vehicles using fake documents.
The police said that 20 vehicles have been seized while more vehicles which were sold island-wide are to be located.
Further investigations revealed that the suspect in custody was wanted by the CID, Mirihana police, Colombo Fraud Bureau, Colombo Crimes Division and the Mount Lavinia police, among others. (Colombo Gazette)
