The main opposition United National Party (UNP) had talks today with the US Embassy in Colombo on issues regarding the 13th Amendment to the constitution.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake and political officer at the US Embassy Micheal Honiestin met at Attanayake’s residence in Colombo today and discussed the issue.
Both sides also discussed other political developments in the country, a UNP spokesman told the Colombo Gazette.
The position of the UNP has been that the 13th Amendment to the Constitution must be implemented in its current form.
The UNP says the 13th Amendment is not aimed at dividing the country but instead one that was approved by the Supreme Court as part of Sri Lanka’s constitution.
Following today’s discussion the UNP General Secretary handed over a copy of the proposed National constitution to the US official. (Colombo Gazette)
