Club raided, 83 arrested

The police raided a club at Dharmapala Mawatha in Colombo 7 last night and arrested 83 people, the police media unit said.
The arrest was made on the basis that the club was operating as a betting center without a valid licence.
According to the police media unit, the club was raided after a search warrant had been obtained from court.
During the raid the police found 80 people engaged in illegal betting at the club and arrested them.
The police also arrested three others who were believed to have managed the club.
The police also sized Rs. 95,000 in cash and a table and chairs used for betting.
All those arrested were handed over to the Maradana police and will be produced in court today. (Colombo Gazette)
