MR says no new casino license

President Mahinda Rajapaksa says new licenses will not be given to open casinos in the country.
Speaking to media heads at a breakfast meetings in Colombo today the President insisted that since he came to power licenses have not been issued for new casinos, bars or betting centers.
He said that moves are now underway to introduce new laws to control the operations of existing casinos in the country.
The President said that designated areas will be identified from where casinos can operate as opposed to the current locations. ?(Colombo Gazette)

Navy arrests 18 Tamil Nadu fishermen for poaching

Eighteen fishermen from Tamil Nadu were arrested by Sri Lankan Naval personnel on charges of fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters, the Press Trust of India reported. The fishermen from Rameswaram, who set out for fishing in a mechanized boat, were arrested by Sri Lankan personnel off Neduntheevu, Tamil Nadu fisheries department deputy director KT Gopinath said. The fishermen have been taken to Sri Lanka, he said.

Sri Lanka gets offer to build solar power plant
