Army Commander promoted to General

Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya has been promoted to the rank of General by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Jayasuriya now becomes Sri Lanka’s second four star General after former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.
Fonseka was stripped of his ranks in 2010 after being found guilty by an army Court Martial over various allegations.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya is the 19th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army. He assumed office on 15th July 2009 following the end of the war. (Colombo Gazette)
