President wants answers after dissaster

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has sought an explanation from Dissaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera on how the public was informed about the impending storm on Friday night, the government information department said today.
The death toll from the storm began to rise today after fishermen, who had gone out to sea on Friday as they were not alerted, got caught in rough sea conditions.
The government said that 18 fishermen have now been killed and Over 30 fishermen are missing.
Several fishing boats were damaged as a result of the disaster. (Colombo Gazette)

Sri Lanka to release Indian fishing boats

Sri Lanka is to release Indian fishing boats in Sri Lankan custody. The decision was taken following talks held today between President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today. Speaking at a joint media conference Rajapaksa said that he has decided to release all Indian fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka. The boats were detained after Indian fishermen were arrested for poaching in Sri Lankan waters. (Colombo Gazette)

Forensic audit report on CB scam submitted to COPE

The forensic audit report on the Central Bank treasury bond scam has been submitted to the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE). COPE Chairman Sunil Handunetti said the report had been received by the committee. Handunetti said that the committee will now decide when to submit it to Parliament.
