A US national was arrested at the Bandaranike International Airport with gold bars in his baggage, the Customs Department said.
The Customs Department said that the 45 year old American had arrived in Colombo last night on board an Emirates flight.
His baggage was checked on suspicion at the airport and customs officers had found 126 gold bars hidden inside.
The gold bars are worth more than Rs. 2.5 million, the Customs Department said.
Investigations revealed that the suspect was involved in smuggling gold bars to African countries.
Further investigations are underway. (Colombo Gazette)
