Distraught teen commits suicide

The police media unit said that a distraught teen had committed suicide by hanging herself in Katunayake.
A resident of Saranatissa, the 15 year old school girl had been found hanging by the neck in the house when no one was at home.
The police identified the victim as Madushani Herath, a student of a school in the Katunayake area.
Investigations revealed that she had been depressed when her father had forced her to go to school.
The police believe she committed suicide after that incident when everyone had gone out.

Supreme Court issues interim order against death penalty

Four arrested over assault on cops in Batticaloa

Four suspects have been arrested over an assault on two policemen in Batticaloa. The two policemen were assaulted and a gun was also stolen in Batticaloa yesterday. The Police said that the two policemen were on traffic duty when they were assaulted and the gun of one policeman was stolen.

Methamphetamine pills seized at Central Mail Exchange

A large stock of Methamphetamine pills were seized at the Central Mail Exchange today. Customs officers detected the pills worth Rs 27 million smuggled into the country hidden inside a subwoofer speaker. Officials found 5,500 Methamphetamine pills smuggled into the country. A suspect who had arrived at the Central Mail Exchange to accept the package was arrested.
