Protest across railway track

A demonstration was staged along the railway track at Hiriyala today, blocking train operations along the track.
The protestors were demanding that the train service operating between Vavuniya and Colombo stop at the Hiriyala railway station.
According to the protestors, the train service never stops at that railway station and passengers who want to disembark at Hiriyala are forced to proceed further.
In an attempt to force the train services to stop at the train station the demonstrators blocked the railway track this morning.

No lax in extra security checks for Maldivians in Lanka

Despite assurances by Maldivian authorities, Sri Lanka customs are continuing to heavily screen the luggage of Maldivians travelling to the neighbouring capital Colombo.
