Legal action over Port fire

The government says legal action will be taken against a private company whose cargo led to the fire at the Colombo Port recently.
Minister of Ports and Highways, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, said that hazardous items which were among the cargo had caused the fire.
He said that the private company which had shipped the items had failed to inform the authorities about it.
The fire caused extensive damage to several cargo belonging to other companies which were also stored at the same location where the fire erupted. (Colombo Gazette)

Coronavirus death toll in Sri Lanka nears 350

The coronavirus death toll in Sri Lanka is nearing 350, with four more deaths confirmed today. The Government Information Department said that the death toll reached 343 today (Friday), just seven short of 350. The latest confirmed victims included residents of Colombo 03, Nawala, Bogawantalawa and Mattakuliya.
