The department of meteorology has warned the public to take precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities which could accompany heavy rain today.
It said that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces today. Showers may extend to the Puttalam and Kurunegala districts too.
Fairly heavy rain falls (about 100mm) are also likely at some places.
Thundershowers will develop at a few places in the Eastern and Uva provinces during the afternoon or evening. Southwestern monsoonal winds over the Island will strengthen at times.
It also said that there will be showers or thundershowers at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Galle.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Jaffna and Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times. (Colombo Gazette)
