Crime reporter arrested with heroin

A Pakistan heroin dealer was arrested at Grandpass in Colombo while he was posing as a journalist.
The anti-narcotics unit of the Excise Department?said that Mohommad Tafeel had in his possession brown sugar worth Rs. 5 million.
The foreigner had visited Sri Lanka on more than 20 occasions as a journalist attached to a Pakistan based news agency.
In Sri Lanka he operated from Grandpass distributing heroin to his agents, the Excise Department?said.
Investigations revealed that he had operated as a crime reporter for the Pakistan agency.
The government information department has been informed about the arrest.?He is to be produced in court today. (Colombo Gazette)

PM briefs Parliament on statement made to bond commission

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today briefed Parliament on a statement he made to the treasury bond commission recently. The Prime Minister said that he appeared before the commission recently to support ongoing investigations over allegations raised against the 2015 treasury bond issue.
