Police see rise in fake currency

The police have noted a rise in fake currency notes circulating in several parts of the country, the police media unit said today.
The police said that fake currency notes had been detected in Yatiyantota, Sevanagala and Kossgoda in the recent past.
According to the police media unit, fake Rs. 500, Rs. 1000 and Rs. 2000 notes had been sized and suspects arrested in those areas.
The police urged the public to be mindful of the watermark and other points on a currency note when dealing with money.
The public have been urged to inform the nearest police station if they come across fake currency notes. (Colombo Gazette)
