Father kills son, commits suicide

A man threw his son into a well and later?committed?suicide in Tissamaharama this evening, the police said.
The police said that the 50 year old man first threw his 5 year old son in the well and then jumped in.
The incident took place in Yodawewa,?Tissamaharama and both bodies have been recovered.
The police said that an illicit affair his wife was having with another man had led to the incident.
Police investigations are underway. (Colombo Gazette)

Remand extended for Southern Provincial Councillor and wife

The?Kaduwela Additional Magistrate today extended the remand of?Southern Provincial Councillor M K Kasun and his wife Tharaka Perera till April 3rd. Kasun and his wife were captured on camera assaulting a private bus driver at the Koswatte Junction in Battaramulla recently. The wife of the Provincial Councillor had assaulted the bus driver for not giving way for the SUV she and her husband were travelling in. A gun was seen in the hand of the Provincial Councillors wife.?(Colombo Gazette)

Navy sinks bulletproof cars of former Presidents and LTTE ship

The Navy today destroyed eight?bulletproof cars used by former Presidents of Sri Lanka and an LTTE ship. The cars and ship were sunk in the deep seas in a Navy operation today. According to the Navy, the cars had been sunk as they were out of service and the authorities did not want them going into the wrong hands. The LTTE ship which had been used to smuggle weapons and was detained several years ago was also destroyed as it was damaged. (Colombo Gazette)
