Germany has been briefed on the Jaffna situation including on what the army claims is a reduction of troops in the area.
The army media unit said that the German Ambassador in Colombo Dr. Jrgen Morhard, who is on a visit to the Jaffna peninsula, held discussions with the Commander of the Security forces in Jaffna, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe.
The ambassador was briefed on the reduction of troops and the reconciliation process in Jaffna in terms of security, peace building, economic development, rehabilitation and social harmony during the discussion, the army media unit said.
The ambassador was also briefed the the Army’s role in the post war development of Jaffna especially the military’s community assistance initiatives, health care and education sector strengthening programmes and livelihood assistance programmes.
The army media unit said that since the end of the war the military is largely involved in the multi faceted post war development drive of the government to develop the former conflict zone.
