EPDP leader and Government Minister Douglas Devananda says Tamils in the North should choose the right people to win their political rights.
The EPDP media unit said that Devananda had expressed this view when he met Fishermen’s Associations in Jaffna yesterday.
Devananda had assured the fishermen that measures will be taken to regain some areas used for fishing which is now under military control in the North.
He also said that discussions are underway to secure the release of civilian fishing boats seized by the army during the war.
The Minister said that the public, on their part, should support the people who are working for their rights and only then can those efforts bear fruit.
His comments come even as the government prepares to hold elections for the Northern Provincial Council in September.
Devananda is expected to contest the election and his biggest challenge will be from the Tamil National Alliance. (Colombo Gazette)
