Minister rejects allegations

Minister of Civil Aviation Piyankara Jayaratne has rejected allegations and accusations leveled against the National airline, SriLankan airlines.
Speaking at an event in Mattala, the Minister said that the airline will turn its losses into profits very soon.
He also said that new planes had been purchased to replace some of the old fleet which he insists is a normal procedure and was not a waste of money.
The Minister hit out at accusations being made against the airline and said that those who make such accusations do not put forward proposals to improve the National carrier.
Jayaratne also said that SriLankan airlines will help boost services at the Mattala airport.
Apart from international flights, SriLankan also operates domestic flights between Mattala and Katunayake. (Colombo Gazette)

Nearly 300,000 people remain affected by drought

The?Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said that as many as 293,764 people remained affected by the drought in five northern districts of the island country.
