Pakistan to give Lanka priority

Pakistan says trade relations with South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries and especially with Sri Lanka would be enhanced on priority basis and solid measures would also be taken to endorse the trade relations with all neighbouring countries.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce in Pakistan Munir Qureshi said that his Ministry appreciated the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) for organising 10 Single Country Exhibitions in a calendar year in SAARC countries including Sri Lanka, the Daily Times of Pakistan reported.

He said the Pakistan Government will facilitate RCCI for promoting local products in the world trade markets and business community will be taken on board in the policy making process in future.

Talking to the President of RCCI Khurshid Sheikh along with Sri Lankan High Commissioner Jayalath Weerakkody and Director General Commerce Department Ministry of Commerce Sri Lanka P D Fernando, Qureshi said the Pakistan government appreciated the role of RCCI in strengthening the national economy and vowed RCCI would be facilitated for promotion of business activities.

He said his Ministry was making all out efforts to enhance trading activities with other countries of the world and private sector would also be cherished in this regard.

Jayalath Weerakkody said Sri Lanka was keen to enhance the trade relations with Pakistan, the Daily Times added.
