Canada is deeply concerned by reports that Sri Lanka is considering a reversal of its long-standing moratorium on the death penalty. Two killed, 2 others injured after wall collapses in Rakwana

Two people were killed and two others sustained injuries after a wall under construction collapsed in Rakwana. The Police said the wall was under construction at the Pothupitiya Maha Vidyalaya (school) in Rakwana when it collapsed. Two people were killed in the accident while two others were trapped in the rubble. The two people who were trapped were rescued and taken to hospital for treatment.

CID tells court no evidence to back claims on Dr. Shafi

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has informed court today that there was no evidence to back the allegations made against Dr. Shafi Shihabdeen, the doctor attached to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital. Lawyers appearing for Dr. Shafi told the Colombo Gazette that the CID made the submission to court when the case was heard today in Kurunegala.
