A 15 year old school boy had sent the SMS warning Muslims not to go to Nuwara Eliya during the festive season, police investigations have found.
The police said that the boy from a private school in Colombo had sent out the SMS without knowing the impact it would cause.
Investigations revealed that the teenager had sent the SMS to another boy who had in turn sent it out to so many others.
Police investigations had found that there was no real threat from the SMS sent out warning Muslims going to Nuwara Eliya.
The police also said that large crowds including Muslims, Tamils and Sinhalese were attending the festivities in Nuwara Eliya.
The CID had launched investigations into the SMS after there were fears it would result in a drop in the public attendance at the festivities.
The police said that Muslims in Nuwara Eliya were however not affected by the SMS. (Colombo Gazette)
