A Japanese national was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport last night while he was attempting to smuggle out Gem studded rings and Rs 3 million worth of foreign currency.
Officials said that the 50 year old man was about to board a plane to Japan when he was checked by customs officers on suspicion.
Customs officers found 32 rings with Gem studs in his possession and Rs 3 million worth of foreign currency.
Among the foreign currency he was attempting to smuggle out were Japanese Yen and US Dollars.
The Customs department said that the Japanese man was detained for further questioning. (Colombo Gazette)
