Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena says Sri Lankan politicians should be certified for their standards like products are certified by the standards institute, as there are several low quality politicians in the country.
A Health Ministry statement quoted the Minister as saying that in society the issue of quality gets priority.
“Like when picking a hospital or when picking a company, if we pick politicians based on their standards then we need to give them a quality certification,” he said.
The Minister said that when the quality is low one can only expect low quality work like in some hospitals.
He noted that at the end of the day a high quality product or service will benefit the people.
The Minister also noted that having competition like in the passenger bus service between the private and state operations, helps increase the quality and standards of that service.
Likewise, he says having similar competition between the state and private sector health service is also good for the people.
Minister Sirisena also said that health workers, including doctors, should be rated based on their performance to ensure they are of high standards. (Colombo Gazette)
