Deputy Higher Education Minister Nandimithra Ekanayake has lodged a complaint with the CID saying that some Pradeshiya Sabha members had made false claims against him.
Ekanayake told the Colombo Gazette that some members of the Matale Rathota Pradeshiya Sabha had sent a letter to President Mahinda Rajapaksa alleging that he was trying to defame the President.
The Pradeshiya Sabha members have claimed that he was also conspiring against the President by teaming up with former President Chandrika Kumaratunga.
Ekanayake said he has written to the President denying the claims and has also lodged a complaint with the CID.
The Deputy Minister said that the claims had stemmed from a conversation he had with some members of the Matale Rathota Pradeshiya Sabha.
He however denied making any references of the President during the conversation, as claimed by the Pradeshiya Sabha members in their letter to the President.
Ekanayake said he has asked the CID to investigate the claims made by the Pradeshiya Sabha members and to take appropriate action. (Colombo Gazette)
