Missing not detained says army

The army says all those reported missing in the Wanni region were not detained at military camps.

Wanni Security Forces Commander Major General Boniface Perera told reporters in Vavuniya that several people are protesting against the government and the army over the missing people and demanding information about them.

He however says such protests are pointless as the army does not know the whereabouts of those people said to be missing.

Major General Perera said that over 1300 soldiers had gone missing during the war in Mullaitivu and their family members hoped for their return.

However after they failed to return even after the end of the war measures have now been taken to provide death certificates to the family members, he said.
