Court orders JMO report on Duminda

The Court today ordered the CID to obtain a medical test report from the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) on parliamentarian Duminda Silva.

The Colombo Additional Magistrate issued the order after Silva failed to appear in court today on medical grounds.

Silva had recently filed a petition in the Colombo High Court seeking bail after he was placed under arrest over the murder of former Presidential advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra.

Silva filed the petition in court through his lawyers as he is receiving treatment at the Nawaloka hospital.

Silva returned to the island recently and was placed under arrest on a court order at the Nawaloka hospital.

Silva was receiving treatment in Singapore for the injuries he suffered during a shooting incident in 2011 in which presidential adviser Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra was killed.

Silva was seen as one of the main suspects in the murder.

The Attorney General’s department had recently instructed the police to file a case against MP Silva over the incident.

Silva is now scheduled to appear in court over the case on March 14. (Colombo Gazette)
