Over 40 train passengers arrested

Over 40 train passengers were arrested today for travelling without tickets or switching from a lower class to a higher class train compartment without upgrading the ticket.
Sri Lanka Railways General Manager B.A.P. Ariyaratne said that all those who were arrested were questioned at the Fort railway station.
He said that some unruly passengers had damaged the property of the railway station when they were asked to pay a fine.
Ariyaratne said that of those arrested most of them had paid the fine while a few promised to pay the fine the next day.
Meanwhile five of the passengers were produced in court and remanded, the?Sri Lanka Railways General Manager said.
He also said that the fine imposed on train passengers who travel without tickets or switch between train compartments without upgrading the tickets will be charged a higher fine from the near future. (Colombo Gazette)

The Supreme Court has determined that the proposed Anti-Corruption Bill is not fully consistent with the Constitution.
